Overview

Dexter, the premier supplier and manufacturer of axles, doors, venting products and related components in the utility trailer, boat trailer, recreational vehicle, heavy duty and manufactured housing markets, has an opportunity for three Engineering Co-Op at our multi-plant manufacturing facility located in Albion, Indiana and Elkhart, Indiana.

Position Summary

The Engineering Co-Op will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager and will be trained on various facets of engineering including manufacturing, industrial, design, quality, continuous improvement, and material planning, in order to gain exposure to plant-wide operations.

 

Manufacturing 

  • Performing production duties to gain understanding of the processes
  • Processing engineering documentation
  • Working directly on the floor with engineers

Industrial

  • Performing time studies
  • Developing and modify production routings
  • Establishing production rates

Continuous Improvement

  • Participating in various Kaizen events pertaining to removing waste from production processes
  • Using lean principles and develop standard work to increase quality, on time delivery, and productivity of the layout manufacturing cells or areas
  • Engineering signage for 5S

Quality

  • Researching root cause analysis
  • Editing mistake proof analysis (Poke-a-Yoke)

Materials

  • Performing cycle counts to balance inventory
  • Participating in implementation of the integrated bar coding system 

 Performing other tasks or duties as assigned

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Position requires a high school diploma or GED. Candidates need to be enrolled in an accredited school or institution pursuing a degree in Engineering or related field of study. GPA of 2.5 or above preferred. Candidates must be able to read work instructions and other work documents provided in English; must be able to write production and quality information in English; must understand verbal instructions provided in English; and must speak basic English.
