    Position Summary

    The HSE Specialist reports to the Plant Manager


    The Plant HSE Specialist provides leadership and coordination of plant activities related to the plant’s health, safety, and environmental program, including performance of the following essential duties:

    • Assists plant with managing compliance to Dexter HSE programs and policies
    • Assists with preparation of government reports and permits/certifications  
    • Assists with review of plant projects to manage HSE impacts
    • Leads safety committees and awareness programs                       
    • Delivers Behavior Based Safety    
    • Participates in job hazard analysis
    • Conducts site inspections                
    • Assures and oversees proper contractor safety
    • Coordinates indoor air quality and hearing conservation surveys   
    • Assists with environmental programs                      
    • Coordinates industrial hygiene surveys                               
    • Participates in root cause incident investigations and TIPSS
    • Delivers training programs
    • Delivers hazard communication & MSDS programs                        
    • Assists with emergency response & evacuation planning               
    • Participates in and ensures effectiveness of HSE auditing program
    • Reviews contracts/RFPS for HSE conditions
    • Supports injury/illness record-keeping & reporting   
    • Assists with the collection and analysis of HSE metrics and reports



    Qualifications include strong leadership skills, ability to influence behavior change, proven ability to set priorities and meet tight deadlines when required, ability to make decisions and work independently or as part of a team. Excellent communication, presentation, writing, and analytical skills are required.

    Business Experience/Educational Background: 

    Position requires a Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable degree and at least 3 years of EHS experience in industry. An equivalent in combination of education and experience will be considered. CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) and CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certifications preferred.
